Activities

Game drives can be arranged in advance through our booking partner, Edu Africa, or it is an ideal base for a self-drive safari.  Talek Gate, the closest entrance into the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, is only a 20 minute drive from the house.  After an early wake-up call for tea/coffee you can be in the reserve in time for sunrise to enjoy all that the day has to offer in the African wilderness. A packed picnic breakfast and/or lunch can be arranged the evening before.

There are several hot air balloon companies that operate from Talek – a balloon ride as the sun rises over the Maasai Mara plains, followed by a glass of bubbly and hot cooked picnic breakfast is a truly once in a lifetime experience.

The Maa Guest House neighbours The Maa Trust. On weekdays you can wander over and see the Maasai women work their age old craft of beading as they sit in small groups sharing news about their families and communities.  Once you have seen how these beautiful items are crafted, guests are welcome to buy gifts from the craft shop.

A unique offering from Maa House is the opportunity to learn more from the team at the Maa Trust who will be happy to share details of the incredible work they do with Maasai communities to empower women, youth and children.

The property on which Maa Guest House and The Maa Trust is situated is one of the official Savanna Research plots of the Centre for Ecosystem Restoration Kenya (CERK).  The savanna restoration project has been initiated by CERK in conjunction with Brackenhurst Botanical Gardens.  Guests can visit the tree nursery where 35 indigenous trees, soon to be 60, are being grown from seed.  Over 1000 trees have been planted on the property to restore the savanna ecosystem, including a botanical garden.
